Youths' Wing

About Youths' Wing

Youth Wing is indeed a dream come true in the Catholic Charismatic Renewal of Nigeria. Though Youth Organization have been in existence in different platforms in some Prayer Groups, Dioceses and Provinces (Such platforms include: Youth Fellowship, Youth Forum, Singles Forum, Brother/Sister Fellowship, Ambassadors Fellowship, Student Ministry, Treasure Fellowship, Young Professional Fellowship etc.) but not functioning at the National level. The youths have been finding a way of coming together to address their peculiar challenges in the Renewal just as in other organisations and even in the Church at large. It is in this course that they started forming various peer groups at the grassroots level of the CCRN. Meanwhile, some countries like England, India, Munbai, Uganda, Ghana, etc. had earlier inaugurated their Youth Body at the National level. The Youth Wing is I n full operation at the International Level of the Renewal under the International Catholic Charismatic Renewal Service (ICCRS). This indeed indicates that in general there is urgent need for the Youth Wing at various levels of the Catholic Charismatic Renewal.

In this vain, it became a burden in the mind of the National Service Team led by Prof. Isaac Ukpokolo to bring youths together at the National level. After the ANGLOPHONE Conference in Lagos on November, 2009, the fire was ignited higher in the mind of the NSC which led to the urgent call of attention of the Provincial and Diocesan Chairman on the need for formation of Youth Wing at all levels of the CCRN and were asked to send their representatives to the NSC Ubulu-uku for inauguration. It was on 23rd July, 2010 that this unfathomable dream came true as the Charismatic Youth representatives of Dioceses from eight Provinces out of nine at the National Service Centre of CCRN Charismatic Youth Wing inauguration.

The Provinces present include: Abuja, Benin, Calabar, Ibadan, Kaduna, Lagos, Onitsha and Owerri. This meeting graced the presence of the members of the National Executives Council of the CCRN include the NST Chairman Prof. Isaac Ukpokolo and formal Executive Secretary, Late Bro Francis-Mary Okwum and some others. In his address on behalf of the NST, the then Chairman – Prof. Isaac Ukpokolo highlighted various challenges facing the youth of the CCRN which gave rise to the formation of Youth Wing in The CCRN.

He outlined the objectives of the Youth Wing formation as follows:

  • 1.      To share in the development of the Catholic Charismatic Renewal in Nigeria.
  •        Aimed at sustaining the vision and goal of the CCR and the Church at large
  •        Get us (youths) prepared, informed and well equipped, being capable to take over the leadership    of CCRN.
  •      To re-evangelize and evangelize our fellow youths in the Church and outside the Church respectively
  •     To develop and empower ourselves in all areas of life; spiritually, morally, economically, financially, academically and so on.

The Chairman further charged all the representatives present to go back and plan programmes that could bring the youths together in our various Provinces and Dioceses.

The youth wing has since spread through all the Provinces and Dioceses of the CCRN and has been integrated into the leadership of various Service Teams of the CCRN across all levels. The Youth have participated in various leadership training of the CCRN including ICCRS Leadership training in Abuja (7th to 15th November 2010, 2011). The National Youth Wing has been nurtured and been established with the sacrificial effort our late Daddy in the Lord Bro Francis-Mary Okwum and NEC. Three elections of NYW had been held in 2012, 2013 and 2016. The Youth Wing is made up of Charismatic youths between the ages of 16 and 40 years irrespective of their marital status.

May God continue to strengthen our elders and establish us (the youths) to live up to the vision and mission of the CCR and the Church at large in Jesus name, Amen.
